Day 003: Write Poorly

A while back I read a great piece of advice that has done wonders for my writing confidence. The advice was to allow yourself to write poorly. Before I read that I felt I needed to get everything perfect on the first draft. But that's what the editing process is for. Just because I write something down doesn't mean I've been committed to it for life. What did I think the backspace key or eraser or squiggles were invented for?

Day 002: Happy Birthday to Me!

Yes, it's that time of year again. My birthday, Groundhog day. Did you know there was a movie dedicated solely to my fourth birthday staring Bill Murray and Andi McDowell? Well, now you do and it's pretty good too, even if I never do make an appearance.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to do the 20 questions I found on Pinterest. It's meant for parents to ask their kids every birthday, but it looked fun and figured, 'what the hey?'

Day 001: Chuck Love

It’s official. I’ve been once again been sucked in by a 365 Project. My mom started taking a photo a day for a year at the start of the year and she's been having a blast with it. Since she started, I’ve decided I wanted to learn how to use my sister’s Nikon D40 so I’ve been venturing out with her on her photo taking exhibitions. So, logically, I figured why not do it myself? And that’s just what I’m going to do. Let’s hope this goes better than my other 365 Project.

If there’s one thing you need to know about me it’s that I’m a Chuck Taylor fanatic. I bought my first pair of Chucks my Freshman year of High School and all these years later, my collection has grown from one pair to over 20 pairs. I may not hold the world record or anything, but that’s a lot of shoes. I wonder what color I should get next...

50 Word Friday: Bedazzled

At the start of this year I decided I wanted to take part in the oh-so-popular 365 project. You know, the one where a person takes a picture everyday for an entire year. Yeah, I wanted to do that but with short stories. I eventually stumbled upon the magnificent First 50 blog. I fell in love with the idea of 50 Word stories. So, I grabbed my notebook and pen and set out for my very own 365 project. And let’s just say that didn’t go so well. I didn’t even last an entire week. But it’s been something I’ve really wanted to do. Enter the creation of 50 Word Friday. Basically, what I’ll be doing is the same concept, 50 word short stories, but instead of daily I’ll do it on a much more manageable weekly basis.

Craft Corner: First Sweater

Words cannot express how truly pumped I am to be knitting my first adult sized sweater. Words also cannot express how pumped I am that it’s actually going very smoothly. There were a few hiccups to start out, I’ll admit I had to frog the first set of increases about a thousand times. But that seems to have all passed and I’m confident there’s nothing but smooth sailing ahead.

Honestly, I don’t think I could have chosen a better pattern for my first time. It’s a top down set in sleeve pattern which eliminates any seaming. It’s awesome for me, because I didn’t want to do a bunch of research before I started. The other great thing is there’s absolutely no guessing with what I’m supposed to do next.  Yes, I did say before that I had a few hiccups to start off, but that’s because I let myself get distracted by an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Really, if you pay attention when you’re making the increases everything should go smoothly.

I am, however, a bit concerned about the yarn. I decided to go with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Columbine, Cloud and Crème Brulee. First off, I’ve unintentionally chosen Vikings colors, which isn’t terrible. I just don’t care to have a Vikings sweater. Second, the yarn feels a bit scratchy, and I’m very sensitive to scratchy sweaters and it’d sort of suck to never want to wear my first sweater.

Concerns aside, I can’t wait to finish this bad boy and wear it to all the Vikings games I don’t go to.
